North of the Governor’s Harbour airport, James Cistern is located right on the Caribbean side of the island. A sometimes sandy, sometimes rocky beach runs alongside the Queen’s Highway as you drive through the settlement.
However, the best beach is actually on the Atlantic side and can be accessed by carefully driving a long, bumpy dirt road. If you make the effort to find this wide and long Atlantic beach, check out the shipwreck close to shore.
Fresh fish is available from the dock usually around 4pm each day.
This is a good sized settlement with several stores, gas station and clinic.
